Meet The Tutors

Hello! I’m Sharif Thompson, founder of Aha! Moments Tutoring Services, LLC.

While Aha! Moments is a professional tutoring service, my approach is personal. I treat every student like family—because your child’s success is my mission.

With over a decade of experience as a certified math teacher and tutor, I’ve helped students at all grade levels gain confidence, improve test scores, earn scholarships, graduate, and get accepted into their dream schools. But more than that—I’ve mentored young minds and hearts along the way.

At Aha! Moments, I believe learning should be customized. Every student is different, and I take the time to discover how they learn best—usually within just a few sessions. From there, I create a tutoring plan tailored to their style, strengths, and goals.

As a former classroom teacher, I understand that school curriculums aim to reach the masses—but some students need more time or a different approach. That’s where I come in. I fill the gaps, reinforce what’s being taught, and collaborate with teachers and families to ensure students don’t fall behind.

I’ve also served in STEM camps, volunteered at local churches, and continue to support students with exceptional needs, gifted learners, and everyone in between.

Because I believe it takes a village to raise a child—and I’d love to be part of yours.

Let’s help your student have their “aha” moment. Book your consultation today!

Meet Jack

Hi, I’m Jack Medlock—a full-time physics student at North Carolina State University with a deep passion for understanding the universe and how it works. My journey into science began under a starry sky and grew even stronger after watching Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey in high school. Since then, I’ve been driven to explore the fundamental laws of nature through both physics and mathematics.

As a tutor, I specialize in math and science, including algebra, geometry, precalculus, physics, and astronomy. I strive to help students build real understanding—not just memorization—by connecting challenging concepts to everyday examples. My approach is patient, thoughtful, and rooted in curiosity. Whether you're preparing for a test, catching up on classwork, or aiming for mastery, I’m here to support your journey.

Outside of academics, I enjoy coin collecting, astrophotography, cycling, and music. I sing, play guitar, and perform in a band with my brother and cousin.

If you’re ready to make math and science click, I’d be honored to help you find those “aha” moments.

Meet Vanessa

Hi, I’m Vanessa Burgess—an EC Resource Teacher and dedicated educator with over a decade of experience helping students grow academically and personally. I’ve tutored both online and in person for more than five years, and I’m passionate about turning challenges into confidence and measurable progress.

I specialize in ELA (K–12) and Math (K–8), with a strong focus on students who benefit from individualized support or have learning differences. My approach is patient, adaptable, and rooted in evidence-based strategies. I create personalized learning plans that meet students where they are, build skills step by step, and celebrate every “aha!” along the way.

What I love most is partnering closely with families—keeping communication clear, aligning with teachers when helpful, and making sure each student has the tools to succeed inside and outside the classroom.

If you’re ready for a calm, supportive, and structured tutoring experience, I’d be honored to help your child find their next lightbulb moment.
